Pastors Lawrence & Darlene Bishop founded Solid Rock Church in 1978 with twelve people meeting upstairs in a fire house on the west side of Middletown. In 1980 they purchased a building on Grand Avenue and began holding services and adopted the name Middletown Evangelistic Center. Pastor Lawrence & Darlene Bishop founded Middletown Evangelistic Center with the vision of being a ‘soul-saving station’ to touch the lives of people in the surrounding community. At the Grand Avenue location, our congregation grew to 300 – 350 members and filled our sanctuary to capacity. Plans began on a new building located off of I-75 in Monroe. In September of 1992, we moved into our current location and changed our name to Solid Rock Church. Instantly we grew to approximately 1500.
In January of 1996, Solid Rock was pleased to announce the opening of the new 60,000 square foot Lawrence Bishop Family Center. Housed in the family center are a racquetball court, full size gymnasium, weight room, aerobics room, arcade, as well as offices, children’s church, Bible Institute, and many classrooms. Church members enjoy the convenience of aerobics and family activities with access to the family center six days a week.
In 2003 Solid Rock Church extended its mission outreach by constructing the Darlene Bishop Home for Life (D.B.H.L.). This home provides pregnant girls an alternative to abortion and homeless girls a stable environment. In 2004, Solid Rock Church established an Orphanage in Sal Paulo, Brazil caring for the needs of orphaned & homeless children. We also completed construction on an outdoor music theater and erected a sixty-two foot monument depicting the Resurrected Christ. |
